DigitalOcean

This guide adds the DNS records from Adding and verifying a domain at DigitalOcean.

Take the exact values from the records array of your domain (dashboard, API or spacepost domains doctor acme.com). The shape is always:

Type Name Value Notes
CNAME <token1>._domainkey <token1>.dkim.amazonses.com Three CNAMEs, one per token
MX send feedback-smtp.eu-central-1.amazonses.com Priority 10
TXT send v=spf1 include:amazonses.com ~all Return-path SPF
TXT _dmarc v=DMARC1; p=none; Recommended
  1. In the control panel go to Networking, Domains, and select acme.com.
  2. Under Create new record choose the type tab (CNAME, MX or TXT).
  3. Hostname: the relative name (a1b2c3d4e5f6._domainkey, send, _dmarc). DigitalOcean appends the domain.
  4. CNAME: Is an alias of must end with a dot in the UI: a1b2c3d4e5f6.dkim.amazonses.com. (a trailing dot marks it as fully qualified; without it DigitalOcean appends your domain).
  5. MX: Mail provider’s server feedback-smtp.eu-central-1.amazonses.com. (with trailing dot), priority 10.
  6. TXT: Value without quotes.

The trailing dot on targets is the number one cause of failures on DigitalOcean: without it the target becomes ...amazonses.com.acme.com.

With doctl:

Terminal window
doctl compute domain records create acme.com --record-type CNAME \
--record-name a1b2c3d4e5f6._domainkey --record-data a1b2c3d4e5f6.dkim.amazonses.com.
doctl compute domain records create acme.com --record-type MX \
--record-name send --record-priority 10 --record-data feedback-smtp.eu-central-1.amazonses.com.
doctl compute domain records create acme.com --record-type TXT \
--record-name send --record-data "v=spf1 include:amazonses.com ~all"

After saving, run spacepost domains doctor acme.com or call POST /domains/{id}/verify. If it does not verify, see Troubleshooting.
